There are no road closures planned as part of the construction works.
Due to the size of the components needed for the wind farm there will undoubtedly be some disruption to travel arrangements for local communities and Pines Burn Windfarm would like to assure communities that all efforts are being made to keep this to an absolute minimum.
The transport of the turbine components is carried out by a experienced hauliers using extremely specialist vehicles that travel at low speeds on certain routes.Β These vehicles are able to lift and tilt the long components where necessary to avoid trees, lamp posts, road signs and to negotiate bends and road undulations.
Due to the size of the turbine components they are classified as abnormal loads and must be escorted by specially trained Police Scotland officers.
The blades are 64.8 metres long whilst the tower sections vary between 21 to 37.4m long. For this first Phase there are 21 blades and 21 tower sections to be delivered to site.
Abnormal load delivery update:
The abnormal loads for Pines Burn Phase 1 have now been completed.
We would like to thank you for your patience during the extended delivery period. We would also like to thank you for the words of encouragement during our encounter with the challenging Scottish winter whilst delivering blades utilising this world leading method of the blade lifter. Lessons have been learned and we are grateful for all the feedback and support from the community, Community Councils, Scottish Borders Council and Transport Scotland, as well as the local MSPs.
Offsite road works update:
All offsite roadworks are complete. There will be no further works.

Please note these timings are estimates. Please see the Facebook or twitter page for regular live updates.
The blade lifter can only move during daylight hours up to the A6088/C29 junction. After this we can travel with vehicle lighting in place. We have installed and tested this and are looking utilise this during the next movement.

Blade sets to transition point and tower to site deliveries will be completed at night between 11pm from Rosyth until ~6am. Individual blades on the blade lifter from transition point to site will be completed during the day. This will be from the transition point at St Boswells to site. There are two laybyβs along the route for the blades to pause for weather and traffic easing purposes. One on the A7 and one on the A6088. All timings will be agreed with the police to minimise disruption. All abnormal loads will have police escort to manage traffic. All dates are subject to police Scotland and any blade movements are subject to weather, which is expected to have a more significant impact as we enter Autumn.
For ease of use there are three tables below. One showing days with proposed night time deliveries, one showing days with proposed day time deliveries and a detailed table by component.
There are no more day time deliveries planned.
There are no more night time deliveries planned.
Please see below a draft, indicative plan showing the expected timings for the blade movements from St Boswells to Site. The empty blade lifter will follow the same route back, and this will happen in the evening following delivery of the blade to site.

The components are manufactured with the final road journey taken into account as much as possible. After disembarking from ships at Rosyth port road is the only realistic option for the turbine components due to their size, shape and weight
Due to their size there are limited roads that can be used.
This is a transfer site. Multiple large components come down the A68 and are off loaded here and then transferred onto smaller vehicles that need to make multiple runs as per the route plan above to the windfarm site.
This can be found above and will be updated regularly should there be any changes. Pines Burn understand that there is disruption to local traffic and thoroughly appreciate the patience of local residents that are inconvenienced during the transport phase.
In any case of emergency services trying to get by the convoy the driver will move aside to let them pass. In addition, all 999 services are made aware of these abnormal load movements and in the event of a 999 call their respective control rooms would be in touch with each other over where the load is and they will co-ordinate vehicle movements accordingly. This co-ordination is made more efficient as our abnormal load convoys are escorted by police.
While the roads are not technically closed during the abnormal load deliveries, there will be delays and passing opportunities are limited. We appreciate and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We recommend you consult the route map and timetable on the website that show delivery movements and we hope this can be useful in planning various appointments.
Some of the road works carried out to accommodate the turbines will need to be worked on again. Where possible these works will be done under traffic lights and only where absolutely necessary will there be any road closures. More information will be posted on this page when these works will be required and updated regularly.
Should you require any further information or have any specific project related questions, please contact the Pines Burn Project Manager, Lambert Kleinjans via email atΒ Lambert.Kleinjans@energiekontor.com.
The timings proposed are as follows, depending on when repairs are completed.
