The Little Hartfell wind farm proposal is located approximately 3km north of Corrie Common and 8km north-east of Lockerbie in Dumfries and Galloway. The proposal consists of 9 wind turbines, with an overall generating capacity of up to 49.9MW. The turbines would have a tip height of up to 190m above ground level. The proposed development would be operational for a 30 year period, after which the turbines would be removed and the site restored.
A planning application for the wind farm was first submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council inย January 2018. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was undertaken and the findings compiled in an EIA Report, which was submitted as part of the application. In order to arrive at a final wind farm design many different studies were undertaken alongside engagement with a large number of statutory and non-statutory consultees. A copy of the original EIA Report and other documents submitted as part of the planning application can be found on Dumfries and Galloway Councilโs planning portal using the application reference:ย 18/0188/FUL. The application was approved at committee in June 2020.
In October 2020 an application to increase the tip heights of the turbines from 160m to 190m was submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council and appealed later that year. As of October 2025 this application is currently awaiting determination (Planning Permission Appeal Reference: ย PPA-170-2175 )
